Fundraising for a Local Treasure
Last week we poured wine at a very successful fundraiser for the Bakersfield Museum of Art.  If you have never been to  BMOA or it’s just been awhile, you owe yourself a visit.  The gardens are lovely, and the art is world class. Read below in this week’s featured wine pairing for more on our experience at Winescapes.

Claire Putney
This week we are preparing ourselves, and our walls, for another Artist’s Reception.  We have just started to hang part of the entire show, with more art to be installed over the next few days.  The work we are featuring is that of local artist Claire Putney.  Look to next week’s email for more information on Claire, but for now, just know that she is incredibly talented.  As usual our reception will feature complimentary appetizers. The Art of Film
Of course, cinema at it’s finest, is an art form.  We thought it only appropriate to show one of the greatest counter culture statements ever made on the Valentien patio. “Easy Rider” will start at sundown. And yes, we get the glaring juxtaposition, of fine dining and the anti-establishment message. That’s what makes it interesting!

The Art We Practice
While you will never see us painting a masterpiece on canvas, we still fancy ourselves artists. Certainly our chefs, at least.  We hope you will join us soon for a “taste” of our art!

“Last Thursday, Jennifer and I had the wonderful opportunity to pour wine for the BMOA fundraiser, “Winescapes.”  Knowing that California wineries were well represented at the event, we opted to pour a selection of French wines. The crowd favorite of the evening, was the Grenache we poured from the Côtes Catalanes appelation in Southern France.  Grenache grapes are wonderful, due to thier low acid, light tannin, and high red fruit character.  The flavors work wonders when served with fowl.  Although lacking in mineral content, this particular wine is driven by flavors of Black Raspberry, Grenadine Syrup, and Herbal Smoke notes.”

This week we are featuring a delightful quail with plum compote just perfect for a light entrée or as an appetizer to share.

The quail is paired with a French Grenache. Domaine Cabirau, Serge & Nocoles, Cotes Catalanes, 2009.

The quail is specially priced at $14, and the wine is just $7 a glass.

This offer is valid from Wednesday, May 16th – Saturday, May 19th.   Or until supplies are exhausted.  After all, nobody wants a tired quail.
